Pickup hits elderly woman in parking lot, causing wrongful death

One of the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents in Warrendale and throughout Pennsylvania is one that involves a pedestrian. Pedestrians are completely vulnerable when there is a crash, and there can be debilitating injuries and fatalities. Often, drivers are behaving recklessly, negligently or are drunk driving, leading to a failure to keep track of pedestrians. After an accident, those who have suffered injuries or lost a loved one must know their right to seek compensation in a legal filing.

An elderly woman was hit by a pickup truck and killed in the parking lot of a Walmart. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to the law enforcement investigation, a 49-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a white pickup when it hit the woman. The victim was in the crosswalk near the entrance to the store when the driver hit and ran her over. When witnesses yelled for her to stop, the driver ran her over again.

Law enforcement questioned the driver and reportedly smelled alcohol when they spoke to the driver. The driver was then arrested on multiple charges, including DUI and homicide by vehicle.

For a victim and the person's family in a car accident, there can be many problems in the aftermath. For an older person, it is easier for the damage to be catastrophic and severely hinder their lives, should they survive. There can easily be a fatality. Regardless of age, there can be debilitating injuries, such as brain damage, spinal cord injuries and more that negatively affect victims for their entire lives. Even broken bones and cuts that will eventually heal can lead to lost wages, medical bills and lifelong problems.

Here, this women died from her injuries. As with many accidents, intoxication is believed to have been a factor. As law enforcement and investigators reconstruct the accident, the woman's family must make certain their interests are protected by discussing a possible lawsuit with a law firm that is experienced in helping those whose loved ones were killed after suffering motor vehicle accident injuries.
